I'm Sari Kimbell and I've done just about everything in the food industry. I have helped hundreds of packaged food business entrepreneurs. And now I want to help you make your delicious dream a reality. Whether you want to be successful at farmers' markets, online, or wholesale on the store shelves, Food Business Success is your secret ingredient. I will show you how to avoid an expensive hobby, and instead run a profitable food business. Now let's jump. Hey there, welcome back to the podcast, I thought I would wrap up the Sales Series, this two-month long Sales Series that has so many amazing podcasts as part of it. And whether you are just starting your business, sometimes we actually need to sell ourselves first on actually starting this business, or whether you are looking to grow and get into more sales, and learn to be a better salesperson for our business, for our brand. This series was just so much fun to put together. I'm really proud of it. I think there's so many good episodes and nuggets to take away from this. But my interviews with Dylan, with Rachel, with Brian, were so good. And then, oh don't forget Shannon, amazing talking about online sales and Amazon and then thoughts on sales, right. And you guys know, I really believe that mindset and coaching is so important as part of this process. It's not just the knowledge, right? Like I can give you all the knowledge all day long. And that is where I love to jump in and offer thoughts and coaching. And, you know, just get you guys excited for what's possible in your business. And so I wanted to wrap it all up with some final thoughts on sales. So this will be like, you know, some motivations, some inspiration, come back to this podcast when you need to get fired up and doing hard things. So I was kind of thinking back about what is it I want to really make sure you heard and that you are willing to kind of lean into and go all in. Sales is required. First you have to sell yourself that you believe in your product, you believe in yourself, you believe in your offer. It always starts with you. And that's why I say coaching is so important because you are at the center of this, when things don't go your way, guess what, you are the common denominator. If things aren't moving along quickly enough, you are the common denominator. So I always talk about in coaching, like we got to fix you, we got to work on you first, right. Your product, and their offer and all of that, and the buyers, and the market. All of that is outside of us that's external. What we can control is you. So first off, I want to just offer you to make a commitment. Now I don't mean commit just to the goal, whatever that goal is, right? Maybe it's starting your business, maybe it's having a certain number of sales, a dollar amount, maybe it's a certain number of accounts. Sometimes the goal is more like get the foundations of your business ready. I'm working with a couple of coaching clients who their sales are there. In fact, they don't have the infrastructure, either the foundations of the business or the manufacturing to actually grow into the next level of their business. But whatever your goal is, that you're committing to that goal, but here's the thing, here's the the common misunderstanding, is you're not only committing to that goal, you are committing to feeling discomfort.

Sari 4:25
To having emotions come up, like failure and judgment, and maybe even regrets, or feeling anxious. All of these things are going to be part of achieving a big goal. And so I want to offer you to commit to discomfort as part of this process. Alright, the next thing is to make that goal. Look at it in the future and then just back it up. Like you guys get an idea too, we get so overwhelmed with the big picture and how are we going to get there, right. The how, the dreaded how. And what's important is that we just back it up to what we can do next, what is the small action that we can take next? What do we know how to do? Who are the resources? What are the resources that we can use to take a next step? Who can you reach out to? You know, what research do you need to do? Like, decide and then keep going. Small actions create compound results, they start building momentum. But you guys all think like, if I have a goal, I gotta like make this giant leap over to getting closer to that goal. No. It's a step, right? If we're traveling on a hike, we want to get to that waterfall, right. We just have to put one foot in front of the other, there's no leaping by bounds and tall buildings, right. It's just taking small actions, small steps, it creates momentum. And we lean into the discomfort, right. And we're like, okay, it's gonna feel a little uncomfortable. I'm not gonna be like loving every minute of this and that's okay. I want to encourage you, if you want to build this muscle of consistent action and feeling some discomfort and doing it anyway to join us, join me, by doing a Badass 30. I talked about this in Episode 50 so go back and listen to that, you have all the instructions, you can get the download, come over to the private Facebook Group, or if you are inside Food Business Success, we have our own super private Facebook Group. But there is where you can post your wins and we will cheer you on and create some more accountability for you. But if you really want to get the momentum going, it's not always about just what you do in your business but it's also how you show up in your life. And are you honoring your word to yourself? Are you following through? Are you taking small actions, even when you don't feel like it?

Sari 7:24
I want to encourage you to the next point is to think like a scientist, we did a whole episode on this. I don't remember the number but I will put it in the show notes. Think like a scientist. Actually, someone told me there's a book called Tiny Experiments, right? And so we just want to make small shifts in our business. We don't want to like change every variable, right? Like, look at what's working, what's not, and then make one small shift because then we can measure, does this work? So if you're looking, for instance, at an email sequence and an open rate, you have a welcome sequence, which one of those isn't performing very well, what's not getting a good open rate, and then change the title of one of them and then test it and then change something else, right? We don't want to change everything because then we won't know what actually worked and what doesn't. And big part of thinking like a scientist is that we have to say no to perfectionism. It also comes back to taking consistent action to get big results. We have to take action that is not perfect because perfectionism leads to procrastination, I know you know what I'm talking about. I will link up the episode for the 80% rule, doing B minus work. But I am telling you guys, I have clients that this has changed everything for them. They are doing more in their business and getting more success, and getting more momentum because they're willing to drop perfectionism and just put it out there. Now we don't want to put out crap, like we don't want to put out, so we're not proud of but B minus gets it done. And I know some you're just like, what is happening, that is like not feeling great. But it is what is going to get you big results so much faster. The next thing is to grow that belief in yourself and your offer. You have to believe in yourself, your product, and your offer before anyone else. Now I will say that having great branding, having great packaging, having a great sell sheet, having a great website. All of that will help you build your confidence. You don't need it. You can do it without it. But I will tell you from experience watching my clients go from kind of their original branding and packaging to stepping into something really up leveled, like what we do in CPG VIP, and you can go back and listen to building a powerhouse team episode, just a little plug for that cpgvip.net. And we are taking reservations or holding your spot, if you want to do a brand refresh or start a branding project for your business, you get so much value in that program. So if you want the full package, basically, I just created the package that I would want if I was starting a packaged food business. So anyway, go check that out. If you're thinking about a 2022 refresh, those spaces are going to go quickly and we would love to welcome you in January. Alright, growing your belief, I would highly encourage you to work on a belief plan. And I'll link the episode for that, I probably should just create like a podcast roadmap of like the most important episodes I think that will help you with your mindset and stepping into the entrepreneur that you need to be in this journey. Which leads me to the next thing, which is that this is as much about who you will become as getting to the goal, the how, right. And the how is the gift we get at the end, I have no idea exactly how you're going to get there, how we're going to get there if you come work with me. But I do know, if you take action, you're willing to lean into discomfort, and you just take the next thing without perfectionism, then that will start to unfold. I have an amazing client who is just doing just that. She's like committed to becoming that next version of herself and taking that B minus 80% action. And like things are happening, it is so fun to watch, like oh my god, I mean, actually, I have a couple clients that are just like, oh my gosh!

Sari 12:21
The things are happening, right. And a big part of it is that they are willing to step into the next version of themselves. We have to evolve, we're going to have to grow. As people, there is literally no chance of you not changing and starting a business. So be prepared, like, own it lean into it, you are going to become a better version of yourself in this journey. I promise you. And if you just lean into it, and you work with it, and you say yep, I'm gonna feel uncomfortable. I'm gonna have some moments where this does not feel good. Happiness is not the goal, my friends and entrepreneurship! If you think that having a business will make you happy, I am sorry to deliver this news to you but that is just not going to be the case. You're gonna have some amazing moments but it is not about like being happy at the end of this journey. A hundred percent no. So lean into it, decide that you are going to do the work, the mindset work, the growth, the evolving to become the badass business owner, the CEO, the founder, the Creator, all of those things. And lastly, I want to leave you with, get community. This is what's gonna cheer you on, give you accountability, and just really give you that expertise and the knowledge to be able to feel more confident and kind of help you move through the uncomfort and discomfort. And when you are rejected when you do make a mistake when you "fail", it'll help you move through that so much quicker than doing it on your own. It's easy to get stuck and then procrastinate and find other things to do. But having a community we'll help you move through that so much faster and get back up on the horse and go out there and keep taking action. I'm telling you community is everything. So I want to encourage you, you can work with me in a number of ways. You can join me inside Food Business Success where we have group coaching twice a month and we have our own super private Facebook Group for members only. We do also have the private Facebook Group so that is the perfect place to start if you're not quite ready, but I want to encourage you to really decide and have some discomfort and set up true accountability. And anytime we put money on the line, we are going to show up as that person who's paying for it and not the person who's getting it for free, it makes a huge difference. Or if you want to get one-on-one support from me, I do have my business coaching program. I'm working with early stage folks, whether you're just starting out, or you are looking to grow your business, I have a one on one coaching program, and you get full access to Food Business Success. So there's lots of ways to get the accountability, to get the support, to get you the knowledge and expertise and the connections and the referrals, right. Like let's skip the line and just go right in. Let's not wait in a 70 minute amusement park line, let's just have the Fast Pass and get you there so much faster. Doesn't mean you won't fail, doesn't mean you won't take hard action and 80% like oh perfectionism and feel uncomfortable. But it means that you will keep going and get there a lot faster. All right, so that's about sales, but it's also just about being a business owner or stepping into the decision to start your business. It's all of those things. I just felt like I needed to come in and kind of wrap this all up with a bow and make this that cheering on episode for you that you can come back to over and over again. I would love for you to join me inside any of my programs. I'm telling you, get the most out of this, go faster. What are you waiting for? Come join me. All the links are in the show notes below. I cannot wait to see you inside. And until next time, have an amazing week!
